Get ready to return to space… the final frontier. And speaking of final, Paramount has unleashed one last trailer for Justin Lin’s ‘Star Trek Beyond’ which is set to beam into theaters this weekend. This marks the third installment of the current film series and the first not helmed by J.J. Abrams (although he remains attached as producer). Though the franchise is quite popular, the second movie ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ was not as well-received, either critically or financially. Even so, many are holding out hope that the introduction of a new director may help course correct the brand.
The core cast is returning: Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Mr. Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lt. Uhura, Karl Urban as Doctor “Bones” McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott and in his final performance, Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Joining them as Idris Elba as the villain Krall and Sofia Boutella as alien ally Jayla.
Hopes are high for this third flick. Early reviews are pretty great, with it currently ranking 91% positive on Rotten Tomatoes. The new film hews a bit closer to the concept of the original show, of having the Enterprise and its crew journey into the reaches of space. (One of the largest complaints about the prior movies is that they were too Earth-bound.)

“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew.
