When it was revealed that Tyler Hoechlin (‘Teen Wolf’) was going to be playing Superman on ‘Supergirl‘ for the second season we didn’t know much on how The CW would be treating the character. While Hoechlin hasn’t really shared what we can expect him to be doing on the small screen this October, he does talk a little about how he plans on bringing Superman and Clark Kent to life. Yes, we have confirmation that he’ll be showing up as Kent as well!
Hoechlin, himself, announced the return of the mild manner reporter:
“Oh, absolutely! Absolutely. I think it’s a part that you can’t really … it’s not complete without him.”
I couldn’t agree more! It will be interesting to see how he handles splitting the two personas as not everyone has been happy with other recent iterations of the character. The next big question was what kind of pressure he has been under being cast as one of the most iconic superheroes of all time:
“It’s definitely incredibly humbling and flattering to even be given the chance to do it. And I think, I’m just going to do as much as I can to see how to bring the true spirit of the character to the show… I’m excited to just kind of look at it from doing it with a clean slate and not trying to replicate or duplicate anything that’s been done, but just being honest to the story and how they’re writing him.”
I’m sure anyone who hasn’t been quite happy with Superman’s recent portrayal in ‘Man of Steel‘ and ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ will be thrilled to hear that Hoechlin plans to play to the “true spirit of the character” as many have complained that isn’t what we’ve been seeing as of late. With a lighter and more inspiring take on Superman, we could really be in for something special here. Considering that fans of The CW shows have been more enthusiastic on their portrayals of characters compared to their big screen counterparts I think that this will just be another feather in their cap.
The flip side is that if it flops it will be The CW’s first big failure at a DC property though if I was a betting man I wouldn’t put my money against a Superman that everyone will love showing up.
What are your thoughts on Tyler Hoechlin and how he plans to play Superman on ‘Supergirl’? Are you excited for the appearance or are you afraid that this will take the thunder out of Kara Danver’s second season? Share your thoughts below!
‘Supergirl’ is premiering on The CW with a second season on Monday, October 10th, 2016.
