Well, it’s that time again. What? No not that time, what are you crazy? It’s time for an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! San Diego Comic Con 2016 is sneaking up on us and we are only about two weeks away from the biggest pop culture event of the entire year! This week we have some more convention exclusives for you, plus a few other awesome announcements in the Toy News for the week of July 12th, 2016!
The Multiverse Returns
While it has been heavily dominated by movie styled figures based on this summer’s ‘Batman v Superman’ for the last few months, collectors will be happy to hear that Mattel’s DC Multiverse toyline is making it’s way back to it’s comic book roots with a whole wave of new figures primarily based on iconic comic book versions of some of your favorite characters! This new wave of figures is slated to hit stores this August and includes Carrie Kelly Robin and Armored Batman from ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, plus ‘Doomed’ Superman and a figure of Supergirl from her hit television series! Each figure comes packaged with a piece to collect and connect a larger figure of Doomsday! In order to complete your collect and connect Doomsday, you will have a to wait a little while for two additional figures, movie styled ‘Prison Suit’ Lex Luthor and ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ Mutant Leader, who are set to release a little bit later this fall.

Hasbro’s ‘Marvel’ous New SDCC Exclusives
While both of these sets have been rumored for weeks, Hasbro has finally confirmed the existence of two brand spanking new Marvel Legends box sets that will be available exclusively at San Diego Comic Con 2016!
First up is their 6″ scale Marvel Legends line, which is getting a fancy yet somehow underwhelming box set based on the super max prison ‘The Raft’ where many of the Marvel Universe’s biggest threats are locked away! This set is comprised of The Abomination, Enchantress, Dread Knight, Purple Man, Sandman, and of course our favorite wall crawler Spider-Man is thrown in for good measure! This set is going to retail for around $119.99 (so around $20 per figure), which is a steal for a box set of this size!

For collectors of Marvel’s smaller 3.75″ scale line there’s the all new “Collector’s Vault” box set! Toys R Us Gets In On The SDCC Exclusive Madness
Much like everyone else, major toy retailer Toys R Us is getting in on all of the insanity that is San Diego Comic Con exclusives! While they don’t produce toys themselves, Toys R Us is one of the worlds largest toy retailers so it only makes sense that they would have some fantastic SDCC exclusive collectibles for us all to pick up at the con! Dream-Ex Plans Trip To Dimension-X
Information is incredibly scarce on this at the moment, but holy crap the team at Dream-Ex is producing a massive 1:6th scale Krang figure for their ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ line! Lunar Toy Store recently shared the first teaser image for the figure on their Facebook Page, but ust seeing how much this thing looms over the already 12″ tall Dream-Ex Shredder figure shows us that this guy means business! Hopefully we will get some more information on this upcoming massive scale Krang figure from Dream-Ex soon! In the meantime, we have plenty to get excited about from this line already with Casey Jones and Shredder hitting later this year.

By The Power Of Super7!
For the past few years, the team at Super7 has wowed us with their amazingly original ‘retro’ figures (you have probably seen plenty of them around, as they teamed with Funko to create the ReAction line that has been flooding shelves). Last year they premiered an all new line of retro styled figures based on the iconic ‘Masters Of The Universe’ toyline. Yes, you read that correctly, an entirely new toyline based on another toyline! Anyway, the first series of these retro styled 3.75″ scale ‘Masters Of The Universe’ figures were a smash success, so it should come as no surprise that Super has announced an all new second wave of them to premiere at San Diego Comic Con 2016! Series 2 of the Retro ‘MOTU’ figures will be comprised of Triklops, Man At Arms, Trapjaw, and The Sorceress! These figures will be priced at $15 each and will first be available at SDCC 2016 through Super7’s “Skeletor’s Lair’ pop-up store!
“They Mostly Come To Comic Con… Mostly…”
As if those amazing retro styled MOTU figures weren’t enough for you, Super7 is going back to the source that put them on the map with an all new 18″ mega-sized Alien Warrior ‘Prototype’ figure from ‘ALIENS’! Much like with what they did with their ‘ALIEN’ line, this figure is a faux prototype for a figure that was never made! Once again this is based on the Kenner style of old school figure, and both the figure and it’s packaging is designed to look as though it is coming to us straight from the 1980’s! This bad boy is going to be exclusive to San Diego Comic Con 2016 and will run you $195 from Super7’s pop up store, Skeletors Lair!
In 1979, Kenner released an 18-inch Alien for the ALIEN film. That toy has since become one of the most sought after ALIEN collectibles. As an exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Super7 is unleashing the 18-inch Super Size Alien Warrior Prototype from the 1986 sequel ALIENS!
The Alien Warrior figure never existed in prototype form in 1986. The backstory is that this piece is a prototype sample of the Alien Warrior for “internal review”. The packaging is a prototype package, modeled after the Alien ReAction Figures 2-Pack from 2013. The package is meant to be a mock-up, with hand-written notes about what is approved, needs to be changed, or filled in during the production process. While the original Kenner 3.75” Alien action figures were genuinely created and cancelled in the late-70s, and rescued by Super7 for ReAction Figures, the Super Size Alien Warrior is a “what-if” figure.
No one made what we wanted, so we made it ourselves!
The Alien Warrior measures 18-inches and matches the features of the original 1979 Kenner Alien. It is articulated at the hips, shoulders, wrists, and tail, and has the same spring-loaded jaw mechanism to release the horrifying inner jaws, operated with a trigger on the back of the head. The figure can also hang from its tail just like the original.
‘Who’ Is In The Blindbox?
Once again Titan merchandise is delving into the world of BBC fan favorite ‘Doctor Who’ with a whole new wave of Titan Vinyls based on the hit series! The latest wave is titled the ‘Heaven Sent & Hell Bent Collection’, and includes a ton of your favorite characters from the most recent season of the show. This wave includes The Doctor in his new Sonic Sunglasses, Clara, Davros, Missy, Osgood, River, Santa Claus, The Fisher King, and more! This wave is due in stores this coming January.
The Funko Forecast
Get ready for the Funko Forecast! This is where we’re going to be showcasing all of the cool new announcements and reveals from Funko! With all of the awesome that consistently seems to be flowing out of those guys, it shouldn’t be hard to keep this section alive each and every week!
DC Comics Invades The Funko Specialty Series
Last month Funko announced a new specialty store exclusive line of Funko products dubbed the ‘Specialty Series’. The collectibles in this series would come from various Funko lines, but would only be available to specialty stores like local comic shops rather than massive retailers like Hot Topic or Toys R Us (who already have plenty of exclusives!). While the first two announced were from Marvel Comics, this month Funko is diving into the DC Universe with their new Specialty Series Golden Age Batman POP! Vinyl and Golden Age The Flash Dorbz figures! These are due out in October.
Firestorm Coming To SDCC!
While Funko has plenty of their own exclusives available at San Diego Comic Con, several other retailers are getting in on the POP! Vinyl action with their own SDCC exclusives at their booths too! Fugitive Toys has announced they will be selling their own exclusive White Lantern Firestorm and a special ‘Glow In The Dark’ version of White Lantern Firestorm at their booth this year. The standard version will retail for $19.99, while Glow In The Dark will be priced a little higher at $24.99.
The Wizarding World Of SDCC
The magical world of Harry Potter is teaming with Funko to take over SDCC with two newly announced comic con exclusives! Entertainment Weekly just announced the first POP! Vinyl of New Scamander from ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’! Funko also revealed plans for a Harry Potter Creatures 3-pack that will include a Cornish Pixie, a Mandrake, and Grindylow! These are set to be available exclusively at San Diego Comic Con 2016, although it’s been rumored that they may also be popping up at Barnes And Nobles during the week of the convention as well!
