Fans of NBC’s ‘Constantine’ series have been dealt several emotional blows over the past couple of years, first with the cancellation of the series after only 1 season (of 13 episodes) on NBC and then when their hopes of the show being picked up by the CW for a second season were dashed, with the CW only bringing in the character for a cameo during the 4th season of ‘Arrow.’ Constantine appeared to help restore Sara Lance to her former self after she was resurrected in the Lazarus Pit, with the good news being that he was the same character that existed on NBC, meaning that the show ‘Constantine’ now officially existed in the Arrowverse. Unfortunately, that was the last we saw of Constantine, with rumors of him returning later in ‘Arrow’ season 4 proving to be unfounded by season’s end.
New developments, though, have produced a kernel of hope for fans. The CW Seed is now streaming the entire first season of ‘Constantine’ for free online, an unusual move as the show still belongs to NBC and the CW really has no reason to be promoting the show of another network. Unless it means that the CW is testing the waters to see how devoted fans of ‘Constantine’ truly are. Perhaps if they get enough views on the CW Seed, then maybe they will consider bringing ‘Constantine’ onto the main network for a second season. Problems with this theory? Mainly, this would be the 5th DC Comics show on the CW, the others being ‘Arrow,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Supergirl’ (which was also saved from cancellation on another network (CBS) and brought to the CW.) Unless they want to start calling the network the DCW, the execs might not be too thrilled to have 5 hours of primetime programming devoted to entirely to superheroes and the comic book world. But who knows? The top show on the CW is still ‘The Flash,’ and if ‘Constantine’ works well, it could bring in a whole legion of fans.
