The television side of the DC Universe has been expanding quite rapidly recently. This week alone, we’ve learned that Poison Ivy will be recast for the third season of ‘Gotham’, Vigilante and Wild Dog are heading to Star City to join Oliver Queen in ‘Arrow’, and ‘Supergirl’ has finally found their Superman. But not to be outdone by the Emerald Archer and the Girl of Steel, the time travelers of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ have also found a new addition to their team.
According to Deadline, Nick Zano is joining the cast of ‘Legends’ as a series regular for the second season. The actor known for his roles on ‘What I Like About You’, Fox’s sci-fi drama ‘Minority Report’, and The CW’s reboots of ‘90210’ and ‘Melrose Place’ will play Dr. Nate Heywood, a historian whose grandfather was Justice Society of America member Commander Steel. It’s currently unknown if this version of Dr. Heywood will follow in the footsteps of his grandfather (or his DC Comics counterpart) and suit up as Steel/Citizen Steel. Although considering the world established by the other shows in this universe, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him take up the mantle
With Ciara Renee leaving the show and Wentworth Miller transitioning from a series regular to a recurring character on both ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘The Flash’, Zano’s Heywood is the latest addition to the crew of Rip Hunter’s Waverider. He joins Patrick J. Adams’ Rex Tyler AKA Hourman, who was introduced in the final episode of the first season, as well as a new Vixen and two World War II era heroes who have yet to be cast.
What do you think about Nick Zano joining the cast of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’? How long do you think it will take for Dr. Nate Heywood to become Citizen Steel on the show? And what other DC Comics characters do you think will join the second season? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.
