Daryl-Dixon3

“If Daryl dies, we riot!” This has become a popular war cry of ‘Walking Dead’ fans since it became clear that no one is safe on the acclaimed AMC series based on Robert Kirkman’s popular Image comic book. Season after season, people have been proclaiming their support for Norman Reedus‘ character Daryl Dixon and their desire to keep him around. However, after the intense cliffhanger of the sixth season, there’s a high possibility that the the motorcycle-riding, crossbow-wielding redneck with a heart of gold could meet his demise at the hands of Negan, his Saviors, and Lucille. And if that happens, the man behind the winged vest will be rioting right along with you.

In a recent interview with Variety promoting his new show ‘Ride With Norman Reedus’, the titular star shared that he’s not in favor of Daryl dying either. But if that’s what happens, he’ll be in the trenches fighting it right there with all that fans that have supported him:

“I will be passing out matches if that happens — I will be starting the riot. You know what, I’m very appreciative. I put a lot of work into this character for a long time, and I really like my job, and I like all the people I work with an awful lot, and I like all those fans that have my back, and I have their back, and I’m trying to do a good job for them as well. So it’s one big family that I’m proud to be part of. But everyone’s excited for 7 to reveal the answers to 6. So I will say it’s well worth the wait. You know what I mean? I know what happens, and we shot it, and it’s well worth the wait. Trust me.”

What exactly are we waiting for? The actor opened up even more while speaking with Deadline about what’s to come in the seventh season:

“It’s a brand new world right now, man. We have big bad guy and that opens up our world quite a bit and changes everything. I mean, you see a shift of power completely on our show. And you see a lot of people who’ve gone through a whole lot, having to bite their tongue for a minute and deal with this new world and this new villain. If you know the comic books, it opens up even larger than that.”

As I said, no one is safe on ‘The Walking Dead’. Although, doesn’t it sound like Daryl is safe for now based on Reedus’ comments? Sure, if Daryl was the main character that met their end at the hands of Negan last, Reedus and the rest of the cast wouldn’t spoil us like that, but the second half of that scene has been shot and the actor is already talking about the shift of power on the show. That’s not the type of thing that a recently deceased character would talk about, right? Or maybe I’m just reaching for signs that point to Daryl being okay. Either way, we’ll have to wait until the fall to find out who ended up on the chopping block. Until then, let us know what you think about Norman Reedus’ comments below.
