Wonder-Woman

After spending decades playing a distant third fiddle to Batman and Superman, the most famous female superhero is getting her day in the sun.  Next year marks Wonder Woman‘s 75th Anniversary and DC Comics is celebrating in style.  She recently had her comic book relaunched as part of the ‘Rebirth’ campaign, she headlines the successful DC Super Hero Girls line which includes various toys as well as clothing, books and other merchandising and of course she will be starring in her own live action movie next year.

Expect the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie to have a heavy presence at SDCC this summer.  Fans are anxiously awaiting Gal Gadot‘s starring turn in the film, which wrapped shooting recently.  There should be some new footage to show off, which will hopefully be available online after it debuts there.

But sadly, there is some bad news.  DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson revealed:

“It will have its own tone and look – it’s beautiful. There is humor in it, there is real emotion in Diana’s journey in discovering the complexity of man. There is no invisible jet, not in this iteration.”

MattSDCC16DCWonderWomanJet1No Invisible Jet?!  But how will she and Steve Trevor get to America then?  Sigh!

Unfortunately, due to the way it’s usually drawn in comics and animation, the Invisible Jet is one of Wonder Woman’s most misunderstood tools.  Because usually when artists depict it, Wonder Woman (and passengers) are still colored in, it looks like they’re flying through the air in a seated position.  In truth, they should be rendered invisible as well, but most of the time, the artists don’t color them that way.

The Invisible Jet “appeared” in one previous movie: as a “sight” gag in ‘The LEGO Movie’, so at least there’s that.

But at least we already know she has her trust golden lasso, which seems even more powerful than it is in the comics and deflective bracelets.  She was also shown in ‘Batman V Superman’ as carrying a shield and sword.

Maybe the Invisible Jet will pop up in the sequel or in the ‘Justice League’ movie.

‘Wonder Woman’ directed by Patty Jenkins, starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Samantha Jo, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Mayling Ng and Lucy Davis will be released on June 23, 2017.
