The summer movie season is well under way (and one could argue started way back in February with ‘Deadpool‘), but there are still some big films coming. The third chapter in the neo-‘Star Trek’ franchise welcomes a new director, Justin Lin and is coming off of the rocky sequel ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’. But fans are hoping for a fresh start to course correct this still somewhat new franchise.
We just got a second trailer which hinted at more depth than the quick-cut, action-heavy first.
Now come some new photos that offer up-close glimpses at the cast, including newcomer Sofia Boutella as alien Jaylah (above). Not much is known about her character at this point, but from what we’ve seen she starts out at odds with Chris Pine’s Captain James T. Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew. We also get a shadowed look at Idris Elba’s new villain Krall. While the photo doesn’t reveal much about him or his motivations, it does give a display of his physical power as he lifts Karl Urban‘s Doctor Leonard “Bones” McCoy into the air by his throat.
Joining Pine and Urban are returning cast members Zachary Quinto as Mr. Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lt. Uhura, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, and Simon Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. Also pictured is Deep Roy as Keenser.
