Shane Black (‘Iron Man 3‘,’Lethal Weapon’) has just revealed that ‘The Predator‘ will give this iconic science fiction and horror icon a new look in the upcoming film. First off, the new look will have nothing to do with the image above as we’ll be seeing a costume design change and not a new hairstyle with some subtle eyeshadow. At least, we’re pretty sure it won’t include that.

When talking about the costume Black says that:

“It’s not to ‘improve,’ it’s make it fun, make it different, make it organically different. So what’s the extension of it that makes sense, that’s exciting? There have been a lot of changes to Stan’s design over the years. These different Predator movies have done different things. Ultimately it’s not about design to me, it’s about the story you want to tell. There are people who are always going to agonize over Iron Man, what color his suit is. Maybe this weapon does a new thing, but if the story is not good I don’t give a sh*t what color the suit is. In ‘The Predator’ we’re doing a lot of upgrades to what you would consider to be the traditional Predator technology and look, but hopefully the story is what’s going to drag people in, not just the attention to the minutiae.”

So while the look will change it sounds as if they are trying to do something that would make sense for the species and fit with what we know about them so far. The good news for those who are dying for the film to get started is we’ve learned that shooting will begin this Fall in either September or October with a March 2nd, 2018 release date. So, we’re sure to starting hearing some hints of what we’ll actually see in the film later this year that doesn’t end up being quite as vague as what Black has been saying so far.

Honestly, I do get the outfit changing. Different clans, ranks, and evolving over time would all make this an outfit that can change. I highly doubt that they would do away with the iconic look altogether so I’m curious what the fresh take on it will be.

Are you looking forward to ‘The Predator’? Do you think alternations to the classic look are needed or should they have kept it the same? Share your thoughts below!
