2016 seems to be the year of the superhero vs superhero movies. First, it was the Caped Crusader vs the Man of Steel in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ In a couple weeks, Team Captain America will go up against Team Iron Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ And today, we another good look at the apocalyptic mutant verses mutant showdown in this latest ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ trailer (and it looks like one side will be getting some adamantium help!). The Wolverine will-he-or-won’t-he-appear-in-this-film question has finally been solved and it really seems that it would be a no-brainer to have him appear in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ After all, he’s been in all the ‘X-Men’ films and ‘Wolverine 3’ will be the next film to be released in the mutant franchise. While the tease was quick, it was enough to elicit a “hell, yeah!”
‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is the last film of the second trilogy in the ‘X-Men’ franchise and with ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ retconning the ‘X-Men’ cinematic universe and making the events in ‘Last Stand’ pretty much obsolete, what happens in ‘Apocalypse’ will drive the future of any other sequels that will come our way.
Rumor has it this is the last domestic trailer before the film is released, however, this will not be the last of any new marketing material as the studios generally start releasing clips from their films a couple weeks before its premiere.
Until then, enjoy the trailer below and let us know what you think of the next installment of the ‘X-Men’ franchise.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
