With ‘Warcraft‘ invading theaters in just a couple months we’ll be seeing a new influx of details and today we have both the cover of the upcoming prequel graphic novel as well as a bit more on what it is about. The early thoughts on the trailers are mixed running the gambit of amazing to too much CGI to worry that while it may appeal to ‘Warcraft’ fans that general fantasy lovers and audiences won’t be interested in it. Personally, I’m hoping that we’re going to be getting a hit from Legendary and Universal Pictures but I’m of course understandably concerned with how poorly most video game adaptations are received.

I’m really curious as to if this comic help bring in a few more fans or just better prepare those who are already looking forward to the movie’s release.

For those who want to get more of an idea of the world we’ll be viewing on the big screen there is a 112 page graphic novel coming out on June 7th titled ‘Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood’. We initially heard about this during San Diego Comic Con 2015 though details have been slim since that time. What we do know now though is that you’ll only have three days to plow through it before the movie opens you know that you’ll be in good hands as it was written by Chris Metzen, the Senior Vice President for Story and Franchise Development at Blizzard Entertainment.

Here’s the cover for it:

warcraft-bonds-of-brotherhood

Which really a bit subtle for what I would have expected when advertising high fantasy and a potential cinematic franchise builder. What is it about though? Well..

Discover how three of Azeroth’s greatest champions forged their first alliance, in the official graphic prequel to the Warcaft movie from Legendary, Universal Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment. In a fantasy action epic set decades before the film, the young and headstrong Llane, Lothar, and Medivh embark on a mission of vengeance that will forge them into heroes… the kind of heroes Azeroth will need in its darkest hour.

It’ll be a down and dirty quick introduction to some of the key players in the film but set far enough back that we’ll only be seeing their past exploits and it won’t lead directly into ‘Warcraft’.
