13 Hours John Krasinski

After laying dormant for a while, the ball has finally gotten rolling on Paramount and Bad Robot’s micro-budget sci-fi thriller ‘God Particle’ from writer Oren Uziel and director Julian Onah. The J.J. Abrams-produced story about American astronauts making a terrifying discovery about the fabric of reality received a release date back in February. Then earlier this month, we learned that David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw would be joining the cast. Now, it appears that the production has just found their next co-star.

According to Variety, John Krasinski is currently in talks to appear in the movie as one of the astronauts. Best known for his time spent at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company as Jim Halpert in the American remake of ‘The Office’, Krasinski has been trying to break into movies for a while now. The actor has been in a number of romantic comedies like ‘License to Wed’, ‘Away We Go’, ‘The Holiday’, and ‘It’s Complicated’ in between guest-starring in a number of TV shows, but it seemed like he was about to make his mark when he was one of the major contenders to play Steve Rogers in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. Though the part eventually went to Chris Evans, Krasinski did get to play a few different kinds of soldier in ‘Jarhead’ and  Michael Bay’s ’13 Hours’. Proving time and again that he has the chops in both comedy and drama, he’s just one big role away from headlining more movies and this one has the potential to be it.

Though not much is known about the character that Krasinski is up for, we do have this synopsis to let us know what he could be up to in the film:

After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.
