Charlie Cox has been in the limelight lately with news about the Netflix corner of the MCU, and after sharing the news that the ‘Defenders’ will start shooting later this year, he has then gone on to speak about who exactly it will be to bring the esoteric heroes together. According to Cox:
“He can’t do this alone. He’s been so adamant about being a lone wolf, about doing it himself, so I think that in order for him to get to The Defenders we needed this second season. We needed to see him be broken individually so that he can – he’s willing to form a team. The lesson that Matt has had to learn in the second season of Daredevil is that he needs help.”
So based on this quote, it definitely seems like Matt Murdock will be the one to unite the ‘Defenders,’ which makes sense as Daredevil is arguably the fan favorite amongst the Netflix heroes (arguably because we have yet to see the ‘Luke Cage’ or ‘Iron Fist’ movies), and in a way he is almost like the Tony Stark of the Netflix MCU, as he has to best job, the most influence (being a lawyer), and most likely sees the bigger picture better than the rest, despite being blind. Rumor has it too that the villains of the ‘Defenders’ might just be the Hand, a group of ninjas that Daredevil has already faced off against once, and knows he needs assistance to face off against once more.
Of course, with all of this in mind it is now looking decidedly unlikely that we will see a ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 before the ‘Defenders’ movie, but as some fans have pointed out, having the Hand as the primary antagonist of the ‘Defenders’ movie might just pave the way for a ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 featuring the ‘Born Again’ storyline from the comics.
