‘The Defenders’ are coming!  Netflix announced back in 2013, that they would craft shows based on four Marvel Comics superheroes, ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’ which would culminate in an event miniseries, ‘The Defenders’ in which the heroes would join forces as a sort of street-level ‘Avengers’.  ‘Daredevil’ has already enjoyed two hit seasons, while ‘Jessica Jones’ also received raves and has been greenlit for a second installment.  ‘Luke Cage’ is due in September with ‘Iron Fist’ arriving next year.

Now ‘Daredevil’ himself, Charlie Cox, has confirmed that ‘The Defenders’ is set to film this year:

marvels-daredevil“What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine… and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”

Tonally?  I’m going to guess it’s going to be gritty.  Just a guess, though.

Cox wasn’t clear on what elements from ‘Daredevil’ might carry over onto ‘The Defenders’.  He simply stated:

“In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”

Cox will be joined by Krysten Ritter/’Jessica Jones’, Mike Colter/’Luke Cage’ and Finn Jones/’Iron Fist’.  It’s entirely possible that some of their supporting cast and maybe even villains will carry over as well.

‘Daredevil’ Seasons One and Two are currently available to stream on Netflix, as is Season One of ‘Jessica Jones’.  ‘Luke Cage’ premiers on September 30, 2016.  No date has been announced for ‘Iron Fist’ yet.

It was not revealed who would be steering this show.  Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez served as showrunners for ‘Daredevil’ Season Two, taking over for Steven DeKnight.  Melissa Rosenberg acted as showrunner for ‘Jessica Jones’.  Meanwhile, Cheo Hodari Coker serves that role on ‘Luke Cage’, with Scott Buck running ‘Iron Fist’.  Any one of them, or a combination of them, could be tapped to run ‘The Defenders’.

Are you excited to see these four champions coming together on ‘The Defenders’?  What tone would you like to see the show adopt?
