In anticipation of the April 13th red carpet premiere of ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ Disney has released a list of actors slated to be on the red carpet for the event, which is where today’s news regarding the film comes from. It seems that both Jim Rash (‘Community’) and Alfre Woodard (‘True Blood’) have been listed as attending, and also listed as being “from the film.” As fans who have been avidly following the news regarding the Marvel/ Netflix side of the MCU know, Woodard has been cast in the upcoming ‘Luke Cage’ series as Mariah Dillard, a character described as a community leader in Cage’s neighborhood of Harlem, whose life, both professionally and personally, are turned upside down by the antics of the new hero, as well as by the actions of her ill-spirited cousin Cottonmouth, another villain in the series. In the comics, her character is known as Black Mariah, as she herself is a drug dealer and gang leader, but it is yet to be seen whether those traits will carry through onto the show. Regardless, the question of the hour is, will Woodard be playing Mariah Dillard in ‘Civil War?’

Unfortunately no. While the internet was getting excited about a possible Marvel feature film/Netflix series crossover, sources told Screen Crush that Woddard will be playing an entirely different character:

According to sources, Woodard has a small, but pivotal role in the beginning of the film. She’ll be playing the mother of an American citizen who was killed during the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron. Her character has a confrontation with Tony Stark where she lays both guilt and blame at him for the death of her son. It’s this encounter that convinces Tony to back the Sokovia Accords that would regulate The Avengers and other “enhanced individuals.”

Jim-Rash in communityAs for Jim Rash’s involvement, we have no idea, but the Russo brothers are alums of ‘Community,’ and they did sneak a Danni Pudi cameo into ‘Winter Soldier,’ so it is not outside the realm of possibility that they offered Rash a similar cameo in ‘Civil War.’ Whatever the case, I am definitely looking forward to seeing how both actors fit into the already sprawling cast of ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ and can scarcely believe we have less than a month to wait before it premieres!
