Not only does the latest international trailer for ‘Warcraft‘ show that outside of the States that the film will be titled ‘Warcraft: The Beginning’ but we’re using a bit of magic threaten the face of Azeroth. Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures either have an epic start to an ongoing fantasy franchise on their hands or we’ll be seeing director Duncan Jones suffer a fateful miss in his cinematic career later this summer. While fans of fantasy and the ‘Warcraft’ franchise have been critical of some of the early abundant use of CGI in the film, the more we’re being teased it seems the more developed of a storyline we’re going to be getting.

Will it be enough to overcome the visual expectations of audiences? Well, let’s take a look at the latest trailer first hand to get an idea of what to expect:

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

In the trailer we see some of the cast but the truly exciting scene is Ben Foster as the wizard Medivh. With this use of magic, we’re finally getting an idea of not only how polished the special effects have gotten in post-production since the first teasers but also what magic will look like on the big screen.

As ‘World of Warcraft’ was for years the largest MMORPG of all time the potential built in audience is actually pretty high. When you mix in fantasy fans who might be convinced to check the film out by the commercials we may have a potential tentpole blockbuster on our hands that kicks off an entirely new series. The problem is that I don’t think there has been quite enough advertising to draw in viewers as of yet and I suspect we’ll be seeing quite a bit more kicking in before the movies release in June.

Hopefully, they won’t give away too many details by the time it comes out.
