ABC announced last year that it was working on developing a spinoff series based on its established series ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ entitled ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’ starring Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird) and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter. The pair have been developed over the course of this season of ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and in January, ABC gave the show an official pilot order. Last month, it was announced that Delroy Lindo had also been cast on the spinoff as comic book mercenary Dominic Fortune.
This weekend’s episode of ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ seems to have set Bobbi and Lance up for their upcoming solo excursion.
Executive producer Jeff Bell discussed the events of this episode as they pertain to ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’:
“Part of what we’re hoping to do with Bobbi and Hunter in the new show is to stake out some new territory and not make it a S.H.I.E.L.D. show. It is not a S.H.I.E.L.D. show…
This is a show, at its heart, about a relationship. It’s about a man and a woman who love each other, who fight, who’ve been married, who got divorced, who are still together, and they also happen to be ex-spies who can kick ass. We’re looking to find a separate world for them in this larger universe, if that makes sense. Hopefully, tonally, you’ll look at it and it will have its own vibe…
What we’re trying to do is Bobbi and Hunter, because they are ex-spies, globe-trot. We’ll go around the world and we’ll go to cool places, but not so much on a giant militaristic scale. They’re going into different worlds…”
Bell also discussed the two lead characters, as well as Lindo’s addition:
“Bobbi is an altruistic, loyal-to-S.H.I.E.L.D., big-picture kind of gal. She’s always believed in S.H.I.E.L.D. and done the right thing for the greater good. Hunter is much more loyal to the guy in the trenches next to him. He’s expressed as much with May. “I don’t really care about that thing — the guy next to me is who I’m worried about, because we’re in this together.” There’s good conflict there. Look, Dominic could have plenty of assignments or opportunities for them, it doesn’t mean they’re bad. It could be somebody needs to be extracted from somewhere because they’re in trouble, or somebody has stolen something that doesn’t belong to them and it is very dangerous. There are lots of situations where they’re not just doing mercenary bad things. They’re not assassins going around whacking people. There’s a lot of gray that you can get into. The question is: Is what we’re told the assignment is really what the assignment is? That’s more on Dominic Fortune than anything.”
It has been reported that two more names have been added to the series. First is Oded Fehr who tends to favor spy/espionage series, having appeared on ‘Quantico’, ‘The Black List’, ‘Covert Affairs’, ‘NCIS’, ‘Burn Notice’, ‘Sleeper Cell’ and many more. So he should be a natural fit for this show!
He is also recognizable from ‘The Mummy’ movies and ‘Charmed’. He has voiced numerous comic book characters including Doctor Fate on ‘Justice League’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’, Equinox on ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’, Ra’s Al-Ghul on ‘Young Justice’ and perhaps in a bit of typecasting, The Living Mummy on ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ and ‘Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’
The second addition is Fernanda Andrade, who recently wrapped the indie film ‘The Beautiful Ones’ and appeared in the horror movie ‘The Devil Inside’. She has appeared in numerous TV shows including ‘Scorpion’, ‘Rizzoli & Isles’, ‘Franklin & Bash’, ‘NCIS’, ‘CSI: Special Victims Unit’ and ‘Sons of Anarchy’.
There is no word on who either Fehr or Andrade will be playing, or even if they will be existing comic book characters are new creations.
The pilot for ‘Marvel’s Most Wanted’ has already been shot according to Bell, so it’s unclear if Fehr and Andrade were part of that. He did confirm that the show has yet to be picked up to series, so in that case, it doesn’t make sense that they would be casting, so perhaps they were already part of this project and it’s just now being reported that they were in it?
At any rate, it sounds like Bell and the producers have a clear vision as to what they want to explore on this show and how to differentiate it from ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
