daredevil

Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb has just killed the rumors of there being a guarantee that ‘The Punisher‘ will have a spin-off show on Netflix after the upcoming season of ‘Daredevil‘. While the latest promo that we have below of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle helps cement the fact that he was made for the role, we shouldn’t get our hopes up quite yet.

“Yey” is probably the key word there though. I’m sure if ratings and rave reviews happen, we’ll be hearing that official announcement sooner than later.

Before we get into what Loeb has to say on the matter lets take a look at the latest ‘Daredevil’ promo video shall we?

Seriously, how amazing is this season going to be? Here is what Loeb has to say about the rumors that have been popping up:

“I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening. It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them.”

So while at this time there is no guaranteed spin-off it does sound as if they are very open to the idea.

While one would think that the ratings of shows so far guarantees that they will all follow suit, that just isn’t the case in Loeb’s mind:

“When they announced that Jessica Jones was getting a second season, every single report said, ‘It should come as a surprise to no one that Jessica Jones has received a second season order.’ I’m the guy going, ‘Well, it was a surprise to me!’ It isn’t a given in television. The fact that we get to continue telling stories with these characters speaks a lot about the quality of the storytelling and the acting and the writing. We are telling the best stories that we can at Netflix, and they seem to be responding to it.”

Honestly, that is the truth. Audiences can be fickle and just because one concept works doesn’t mean that they all will. I’m sure that fans of Frank Castle are hoping he’ll get the same warm welcome that everyone else in Netflix’s Marvel series’ have so far.

Of course, we’re going to be heading into even darker territory than we’ve seen from Marvel as Loeb explains:

“I can tell you that this guy, horrible tragic things happen, and we will see how he goes through that. The effect the other characters have on him will push him certain directions. I think once you see these characters collide, it’s tremendously interesting and emotionally gripping as well. It’s going to be a special season. If you thought last season of Daredevil was dark, we’re going to a whole new place.”

While Netflix viewers are expecting a more gritty Marvel could this take on The Punisher which sounds to be true to character also be too much for viewers to get bheind? Do you think we’ll have a Frank Castle that no one will want to support and therefor not being able to get a show greenlit? Share your thoughts below True Believers!

‘Daredevil’ Season 2 returns to Netflix on March 18th, 2016.
