Jeremie-Harris

FX’s adaptation of ‘Legion‘ is starting to pick up as the network has just cast newcomer Jeremie Harris (‘A Walk Among the Tombstones’,’Pariah’) in the series. He’ll be joining Dan Stevens (‘Downton Abbey’) who has the central role, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, and Rachel Keller. On the series, we’ll see Harris playing Ptonomy who is described as “an outsider by nature, stand-offish and sardonic, who is a former child prodigy who feels trapped in the past.”

While this take on the character of ‘Legion’ won’t be part of either the mainstream ‘X-Men’ films or the ‘Hellfire‘ series if it ever gets underway, it will still follow the main premise of David Haller who is “a man who may be more than human and who has struggled with mental illness since his teenage years.” While he has been diagnosed as being schizophrenic, David is one of many who have been in and out of the system as his mood has changed. Only, we see him finding someone who proves to him that the voices and visions he sees might actually be real.

In the comics, we know that he is the son of none other than Professor X who has had to implement massive psychic blocks in order for his son to be able to live a barely normal life. Legion has the power of a multitude of mutants within him who are all vying for control of his sanity and body which he has lost control of on multiple occasions. It will be interesting to see what aspects of his history will remain with so many clear changes from the source material.

Sadly my favorite story about Legion is from the ‘X-Men: Legacy‘ run that endcapped his story by Simon Spurrier that they couldn’t even try to implement until a final season in order to do it right.

Are you looking forward to ‘Legion’? What story arcs of his past do you hope they can find a way to include? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
