SPOILER ALERT! This article reveals a MAJOR SPOILER for upcoming episodes of Season Six of ‘The Walking Dead’.  If you don’t want to know what’s coming up, stop reading!

Carl in a lot of ways is the entry character for ‘The Walking Dead’, a stable young man who has come of age in the Zombie Apocalypse and remains in many ways the most grounded and level-headed figure, even moreso than his father Rick, the main character who tends to lose his mind periodically.  Even so, Carl has been through some very traumatic situations.  He had to gun down his father’s best friend Shane.  (Well okay, it was zombie Shane, risen from the dead after Rick killed him first.)  Then after delivering his sister baby Judith, Carl had to kill his own mother, Lori.  Now it seems he’s about to suffer another major loss.

In Season Five and the beginning of Season Six, Carl formed a bond with the mysterious Enid (Katelyn Nacon) who was already the girlfriend of Ron (Austin Abrams), the older son of Jessie (Alexandra Breckinridge) Rick’s new main squeeze.  When Ron suddenly developed an interest in learning how to shoot, many fans feared for Carl and began speculating that the TV version of Carl (Chandler Riggs) would befall a similar fate as his comic book source, the loss of his eye.

It didn’t happen in the last episode, but it looks like it will happen soon as this image was released in, of all places, Russia:

carl-eyeIn the comics, Rick led a group of survivors covered in zombie guts through a herd in hopes of leading them to safety as Alexandria was swarmed.  Things quickly went south and amid the chaos, Carl was shot in the head by Douglas, who panicked and began shooting wildly.

But the TV show replaced Douglas with Deanna and she’s already dead.  Clearly some changes will be made.

Ron is still in play, though and I think most readers of the comics saw this coming all the way back when Ron first developed an interest in learning how to shoot.

But that’s just one possibility.

At any rate, it looks like Carl is losing his eye in the show the way he did in the comics.  What do you think?  Is this a smart move?

‘The Walking Dead’ returns this weekend on Sunday, February 14th on AMC at 9pm ET.
