Now this is interesting.  Lauren Cohan, the star of the current horror flick ‘The Boy’ and best known as Maggie Greene Rhee on ‘The Walking Dead’ has a surprise role in March’s highly anticipated ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’.  While promoting ‘The Boy’, Cohan tweeted the announcement that she portrays Martha Wayne in the upcoming slugfest.

Martha Wayne is the mother of Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) so clearly her part appears in flashbacks.  What’s particularly intriguing is that she will star opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan who plays her husband Thomas Wayne.  Morgan will be joining Cohan later this season on ‘The Walking Dead’ on which he will portray major new bad guy Negan.  ‘The Walking Dead’ is based on the best selling Image Comics series, while ‘Batman V Superman’ is of course based on the heroes of DC Comics.

In the comics, it is the murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne at the hands of a common crook that inspires a young Bruce to eventually adopt the identity of Batman.

Martha Wayne has previously been depicted on the big screen, played by Sharon Holm (‘Batman’), Eileen Seeley (‘Batman Forever’) and Sara Stewart (‘Batman Begins’).  She was most recently seen on ‘Gotham’ portrayed by Brette Taylor.

Considering that Batman’s origin has been adapted numerous times, hopefully director Zack Snyder has a fresh approach to the Wayne that will hopefully add a new element to this oft-told tale.

What do you think?  Are you interested in seeing Cohan and Morgan as the Waynes?  Or do you think everyone knows Batman’s origin well enough by now?

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Jesse Eisenberg hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
