‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ seems to be the place to be if you’re a comic book movie fan. One week ago, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. brought the first trailer for ‘Captain America: Civil War’ to the late night talk show. Now, Ben Affleck does the same for DC Comics’ epic superhero showdown ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.’

Following a tease earlier on in the week, Affleck showed off the first full-length trailer for the upcoming Zack Snyder film that will see the Caped Crusader go head to head with the Man of Steel after he had a little fun with Kimmel (who insists on only calling the actor Batman). Although, as we see in the plethora of new footage contained in this new sneak peek at the next chapter of DC’s cinematic universe, the Dark Knight is far from the only threat that the Last Son of Krypton has to deal with this time around. Check out the trailer in all it’s glory below, followed by the film’s official synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

After watching the trailer an excessive amount of time since it dropped, a few thoughts crossed my mind. First, I’m still bothered that Batman tucks his trench coat sleeves into his gloves. Second, I really, really, REALLY dislike Jesse Eisenberg’s take on Lex Luthor based on this trailer. Before this, I thought that they were taking a very interesting direction with the iconic villain for this film. Now, his singsongy and whimsical tone, especially as he introduces Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, makes him seem more like The Riddler or The Joker, the latter of which was nicely referenced when Wayne says, “We have a bad history with freaks dressed like clowns.” Finally, the end gag between Batman and Superman talking about Wonder Woman didn’t exactly fit the tone of the rest of the trailer. DC and WB’s thing is dark and brooding. It’s understandable that they’d want to lighten up a bit after all that criticism following ‘Man of Steel’, but this hardly seemed like the right place to do it.

Not all my feelings regarding the new ‘Dawn of Justice’ trailer were negative though. It was interesting to see their take on Doomsday after hearing plenty of rumors regarding his inclusion in the film. He certainly resembles his comic book counterpart well enough. I’m curious to see just how big a threat he ends up being in the final version of the movie. Beyond that, I’ll hold full judgement until the movie actually comes out. DC has a way of surprising us once. Sometimes that’s good (like Heath Ledger’s Joker) and sometimes it’s bad (like ‘Green Lantern’), but either way we definitely have something to talk about.

What did you think of the latest trailer for ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’? Does it make you more excited for, as Lex Luthor puts it, the “greatest gladiator match in the history of the world”? Sound off in the comments.

‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Jesse Eisenberg hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
