With all of the momentum Marvel gained this week by releasing the poster and trailer for ‘Captain America: Civil War,‘ it only stands to reason that they continue the promotional train for the film, even though it still will not be hitting theaters for another 6 months. Still, on Wednesday Marvel released a new synopsis for the film, which you can read below:

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in U.S. theaters on May.

Interesting to me is the part about Tony Stark’s decision to support government oversight being “surprising,” which may suggest there were outside forces affecting his choice, aside from just his guilt over creating Ultron and almost destroying the world (or course, that could also just be my reaction after watching all of ‘Jessica Jones,’ whose villain was known for forcing people to make decisions not their own, and often out of character.) Also interesting is the idea of Marvel asking fans to pick a side, as that might suggest the direction the marketing efforts for the film might take, with promos and TV spots specifically designed to be pro- Cap or pro Iron Man, which could lead to some interesting lead-ups to the film.
