Karen Gillan recently took time for an interview with Comic Book Resources where she discussed the future of her character, Nebula, in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel, and her enjoyment in playing the character and being able to work in the MCU. Check out some of the highlights from the interview below!

CBR News: Have you gotten your script for “Guardians of the Galaxy 2?”

Karen Gillan: I have!

What was your first reaction when you read it?

I took it in my hands — because they don’t send it over email; they deliver it by hand — and it was so cool. I was so excited, and I ran upstairs, and I put on the soundtrack, the Awesome Mixtape 2, and then got into it. It’s so good.

I know you can’t tell me details about the plot, but what are you excited about being able to carry your character a little further forward?

I think what I’m really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we’re going to see a little bit more of that, and it’s going to be a bit more fleshed out.

Are you prepared for the makeup again? Did you initially endure that thinking it was a one-time ordeal?

I kind of — I was mentally prepared to go through it again. It’s so cool. The finished product is so cool that it’s just so worth it when I see it at the end.

As a fan of the MCU and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ it is nice to hear that cast-members seem to be enjoying the films as much as I am, and I really enjoy hearing about James Gunn’s enthusiasm for the project, for in my mind, that is what makes for great movies: passion from the cast and crew. As far as the story elements she discusses, I would really like to see more of Nebula this time around, and if that means an uneasy alliance with the Guardians, I think that would make for a lot of great moments, comedic and dramatic, and really give Zoe Saldana and Gillan a chance to shine (which is ok by me, as they were my favorite part of the original film anyway). And exploring their “sisterly” bond is sure to have some great moments well, as well as shine a light into how these two strong women came to be, and what they would be willing to do to destroy the man who tortured them as children: Thanos.
