Despite rumors that Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ film is being stalled by Ridley Scott himself, who claims he wants to see his ‘Prometheus’ sequel, ‘Alien: Paradise Lost’ come out first, Blomkamp is still hard at work on his ‘Alien’ film. While we last heard he was still in the script phase, it seems he has also begun some pre-production work with sketching out the look of the film, and even taking time to work with his team to start designing important props that will be featured in the movie.
Hence the release of a new image on Instagram showing off the new Pulse Rifle that will be wielded (hopefully) by Ripley and her allies. New to the M41A Pulse Rifle that originally make its debut in the ‘Alien’ sequel ‘Aliens’ (directed by James Cameron in 1986) is the integration of a “Rail Intergration System” (or RIS). For those unaware (such as myself before researching this article), according to Wikipedia, a RIS is:
“….a generic term for a system for attaching accessories to small firearms such as pistols, rifles and light machine guns. Common accessories include tactical lights, laser aiming modules, forward hand grips for improving weapon handling, telescopic sights for medium-ranged or distant targets, and reflex sights/red-dot sights for short to medium-ranged targets, iron sight lines, bipods, and bayonets. These are used primarily in the military and by firearm enthusiasts to improve the usability of the weapon, being accessorized quickly and efficiently without requiring the operator to field-strip the weapon.”
With the focus on the Pulse Rifle and enhancements such as the RIS integration, its beginning to look like Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ film will feature a massive war agains the Xenomorphs, and if the rest of the weaponry looks anywhere as cool as the new Pulse Rifle, its definitely a good start for the film.
