Slated for release in November, ‘Jessica Jones’ follows and builds upon the first Marvel/Netflix collaboration ‘Daredevil’ which brought a gritty, street-level spin to the live action Marvel Universe.  ‘Daredevil’ was a solid hit and a second season has already been ordered.  ‘Jessica Jones’, starring Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, David Tennant, Rachel Taylor and Carrie-Anne Moss, is the second new character program and Colter will follow this series up with his own, playing strongman ‘Luke Cage’.  (A fourth show, ‘Iron Fist’ will follow that and then all four protagonists are said to be teaming up as ‘The Defenders’ a grounded take on The Avengers.)

‘Jessica Jones’ follows Ritter as the title character, a short-lived super hero, who in the comics is named Jewel.  Reportedly, a tragedy involving villain Kilgrave (Tennant) ended that phase of her life and she now attempts to start over as a detective.  Colter’s Luke Cage will be her romantic interest and Taylor’s character, Trish Walker is based on the comic book character Patsy Walker, who also served as a struggling super hero and member of The Defenders, Hellcat.

A new batch of pictures has been released, showing Ritter, Tennant, Colter, Moss and Taylor

‘Jessica Jones’ promises to carry on the gritty, grounded tone established by ‘Daredevil’.  (No cameos by Asgardians, one assumes.)  The show also stars Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty and Wil Traval.  Melissa Rosenberg serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Liz Friedman and Jeph Loeb.

As of right now, the new series is slated to become available on November 20th, but with Netflix, that may change at a moment’s notice.  Are you ready for more grounded Marvel adventures?  How do you think ‘Jessica Jones’ will stack up against ‘Daredevil’?
