Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them‘ takes place in the same world as the ‘Harry Potter’ films, but seventy years beforehand, so while several elements will tie the two film series together, most of the ‘Potter’ cast hasn’t even been born yet, including the parents.  But there now appears to be one family bond that brings ‘Beasts’ and ‘Potter’ a bit closer.

Via Twitter, J.K. Rowling revealed that two of the key characters in ‘Fantastic Beasts’, Porpentine (or Tina for short) and Queenie share the surname Goldstein.

Die hard fans quickly concluded that the modern day character two whom they are related was Ravenclaw student Anthony Goldstein, but Rowling cautioned that this bloodline wasn’t exactly direct:

This reveal is really more like an Easter Egg, as Anthony Goldstein is a pretty minor character.  He is most known for ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ in which he joined Dumbledore’s army.  He was friends with Terry Boot and Michael Corner, who is notable for dating Ginny Weasley.  Anthony never appeared, or at least wasn’t named, in the film adaptation of the fifth book, although he does appear in the video game based on it.

Like most aspects of the Potterverse, J.K. Rowling developed many minute details about Anthony, including that he was originally meant to be a Hufflepuff and he is a half-blood.

In ‘Fantastic Beasts’, Katherine Waterston plays Porpentina and Alison Sudol plays Queenie.

The film stars Eddie Redmayne as the main character, Newt Scamander, with Colin Farrell as Graves, the future movie Flash Ezra Miller as Credence, Dan Folger as Jacob, Samantha Morton as Mary Lou, Jenn Murray as Chastity and Faith Wood-Blagrobe as Modesty.

Filming on the movie began today in Leavesden, as happily tweeted by Rowling, who wrote the screenplay (her first):

Here is the movie’s logline:

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) stars as Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s preeminent magizoologist, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures.

Not mentioned, but widely known, is that Newt’s initial adventure takes him to New York City, where he first encounters Graves.

For those jonesing for more Potter film goodness, this is great news!

The movie is due to hit November 18, 2016.  Are you ready to re-enter this Wizarding Worlds?
