Have you ever wished a movie trailer for a haunted house movie were a theme park ride for said movie? Well, Legendary Pictures is bringing you the next best thing. Similar to their 360 degree video for the upcoming Warcraft movie, they have released a 360 degree video for the upcoming ‘Crimson Peak.’ It takes you on a very brief tour through the front door and down a hallway of Allerdale Hall, the haunted house the movie takes place in. Please remember that 360 degree videos can currently only be properly seen on Chrome web browsers or the YouTube app for mobile devices. If you don’t use either of those means, then the video will look all weird.
As with the ‘Warcraft’ movie, it’s really quite visually impressive and very atmospheric, although there isn’t very much real substance as one would hope from a trailer. I liked the overall mood of the trailer, but I also thought the jump scare at the end was a bit cheap. I suppose cheap scares are what jump scares are for, though.
‘Crimson Peak’ is the story of Edith (played by Mia Wasikowska), a young writer with an unspecified “troubled past” who has seen ghosts ever since she was a small child. She marries Sir Thomas Sharpe (played by Tom Hiddleston) and moves into his isolated, gigantic, gothic mansion, Allerdale Hall, where he and his sister Lucille (played by Jessica Chastain) live. Once there, she finds out that Allerdale Hall is haunted and that her new husband may not be who he appears to be and he may have had an ulterior motive for marrying her.
So, what do you think? Are these sorts of trailers the future of movie adverts or just a gimmick? What movie do you think would benefit from this sort of 360 degree trailer? Let us know in the comments below.
Crimson Peak is scheduled for release this coming October 16th.
