Potterheads across the globe are excited about Warner Bros’ return to the wizarding world of JK Rowling with ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ but unlike the acclaimed ‘Harry Potter’ series, they don’t really know what to expect. While the upcoming film is based on a book that is widely available to any young witch or wizard, that book is a reference book without an actual story. All we know is that the movie will follow author and adventurer Newt Scamander as he studies magical creatures in various locations around the world including New York City during the 1920s. However, thanks to a new casting report for the film’s female leads, we might have just learned a little something new.
According to The Wrap, a number of actresses are being eyed for the roles of Queenie and Tina, a pair of possibly American sisters that Newt encounters on his travels. The site lists Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, Lili Simmons, and Alison Sudol as potential Tinas and Kate Upton, Katherine Waterston, and Elizabeth Debicki as candidates for the older Queenie. But what does this have to do with the plot? Well, one of these ladies may be Newt’s future wife.
Though there’s not a lot of information in the writer’s bio of ‘Fantastic Beasts,’ it does mention that Scamander (who is said to be played by Eddie Redmayne) eventually settles down with his wife Porpentina and their pet Kneazles. Could Tina be short for Porpentina? Many sites speculate so, but there’s always the possibility that this Tina could be someone completely different all together. As the studio looks over the first draft of Rowling’s script, I’m sure that we’ll find out one way or another soon.
What do you think about these actresses potentially joining ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’? Would Kate Upton, Katherine Waterston, and Elizabeth Debicki make a good Mrs. Newt Scamander next to Eddie Redmayne? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ apparates into theaters on November 18, 2016.
