While ‘World War Z‘ may have been Brad Pitt’s highest grossing movie of all time, word from writer Steven Knight earlier this year had put his return to the franchise in question, until now. When the writer mentioned things like “we’re staring with clean slate,” you had to think the filmmakers might actually start giving us multiple points of view as the novel did.

Nope, not happening. It has just been confirmed that Pitt is reprising his role as Gerry Lane in ‘World War Z 2.’ Clearly Pitt and the studio are happy to see such a successful film get a sequel and they are so confident that they are running it up against a Marvel movie on its opening weekend!

Before I get ahead of myself, this isn’t a Marvel Studios film that ‘World War Z 2’ will be up against. The June 9, 2017 release date will set the movie against Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four.’ However, with how much slack that Josh Trank’s ‘Fantastic Four’ has received without even having been released and the positive reviews that ‘World War Z’ garnered even with straying so far from the source material, it seems like the studio isn’t too worried.

Chances are it shouldn’t be either. Either the studio feels that ‘Fantastic Four’ will be such a flop that a sequel won’t even get greenlit or will bomb so horribly that going up against it won’t really matter. I’m sure that we can all agree that it most likely would have been a completely different story if a future ‘Avengers’ film was set for that weekend.

We don’t really know what direction that ‘World War Z 2’ will be following quite yet as the first one ended on a pretty strong note with a cure in hand that just needs to be delivered to the infected populace.

Are you looking forward to seeing Brad Pitt return for ‘World War Z 2’? What direction do you think they may take with the film? Share your thoughts below!
