It looks like casting for ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ is really picking up as the production has just recruited Diego Luna (‘Elysium,”Milk’) as a rebel fighter with Ben Mendelsohn (‘The Dark Knight Rises,”Exodus: Gods and Kings’) signing on as the film’s main villain. The two will be joining Felicity Jones (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ ‘The Theory of Everything‘) who has already been confirmed as part of the cast. Director Gareth Edwards seems to be on a roll when it comes to casting the film so far and it is really making me want to check out how this band of resistance fighters come together to steal the Death Star plans which we see delivered in ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’.
Now I should take this time to point out that Disney and Lucasfilm have only officially confirmed that Felicity Jones has joined the film at this time. All of that being said, it looks like chances are high that these two have joined the cast.
Having a few times in preliminaries being described as a “dirty dozen” of the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t be too surprised if we hear a whole lot of casting popping up in the near future. What really has me interested is that if this is going to be an intergalactic heist movie, what kind of villain will Mendelsohn actually end up playing? Unless they are conning him into giving away the plans or he is specifically hunting them down, it would almost seem like a standard Imperial Officer would be the likely choice and that almost doesn’t feel right. I assume we’ll be hearing more details on plot points in the near future as well.
