‘Saturday Night Live’ has never shied away at portraying how utterly zealous genre fans can be (remember the skit of William Shatner at a Star Trek convention?) and last night’s opening monologue with Michael Keaton was no exception. Among the many roles Keaton has had over the years, two of the ones he’s most known for are the Caped Crusader and the Ghost with the Most. In this comical musical number, cast members Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan beg Keaton to play Batman and Beetlejuice with them.

Keaton, who I’m sure gets this request all the time, politely refuses but that doesn’t stop Moynihan and Killam as they continue to find ways to persistently persuade him to play. It’s not until other ‘SNL’ cast members come in to help the two that Keaton finally relents – in a way that will make any fanboy and fangirl squeal with delight.

Can’t say that I blame Moynihan and Killam as it doesn’t seem that Keaton will reprise his role as Batman anytime soon now that Ben Affleck fills the Batsuit and we’re still hoping ‘Beetlejuice 2’ will get made. Until then, this will have to do.

Saturday Night Live airs on Saturday Nights at 11:30 PM ET on NBC.
