When Toho, the original creators of ‘Godzilla‘, announced that they were making a new film last December I doubt any of us suspected that so much talent would end up being involved. The studio has tasked creative geniuses Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi to create their next installment. The pair are currently known for their amazing work on ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ and fans world wide are excited for their live-action ‘Attack on Titan’ film that will be released soon. The duo will be co-directing the 29th ‘Godzilla’ film which is planned to be released in 2016 which is two years ahead of Legendary’s ‘Godzilla’ sequel.

It should be noted that the success of Legendary’s reboot has helped bring Toho a chance to continue on with the classic franchise as they retained the rights to do so when bargaining with Legendary.

Smart move.

For the film we know that Anno is currently busy writing the script and that Higuchi is also set to supervise the special effects. According to Toho:

Ever since Hollywood announced that ‘Godzilla’ was to be resurrected, the expectation for another Japanese Godzilla grew. And if we were to newly produce, we looked into Japanese creators who were the most knowledgeable and who had the most passion for Godzilla.

After ‘Godzilla: Final Wars’ was released in 2005 fans have wanted more of the King of the Kaiju and now those desires are being realized! While the studio might not be able to compete with Legendary’s $200 million budge, the advances of CGI in recent years will greatly help get the film to the big screen and still look great. That does mean it isn’t likely we’ll be seeing a man in a giant suit for this one.

Are you looking forward to these creative geniuses revive the ‘Godzilla’ franchise that many of us grew up with? Is there room in your heart for both forms of ‘Godzilla’ or can you only stand to watch one of the two? Share your thoughts below!
