If you aren’t caught up on this season’s ‘The Flash,’ then you may want to click away as there are some major spoilers here!
The Flash/Barry Allen’s seemingly benevolent mentor, Harrison Wells– played by Tom Cavanagh— has been revealed to secretly be a criminal mastermind and possibly even the murderer of Barry’s mother. “It’s ultimately why I signed on to this job. Not to play a scientist, but to play a time-traveling bandit,” Cavanagh revealed. Wells is actually the super villain Reverse-Flash, also known as Eobard Thawne or Professor Zoom and the grandson of Eddie Thawne, the police detective partnered with Barry’s father figure Joe West and the current love interest of Joe’s daughter Iris.
‘The Flash’ returns after a mid-winter hiatus this Tuesday and The CW has revealed that the last five minutes of the show will be a “game changer.”
Cavanagh stated, “If anybody has followed The Flash, then they know Reverse-Flash and The Flash are not just doing this right now in the present day. They have a long history and there’s nothing that we’re not going to pursue when we try to tell the story. We’re trying to tell all of it.”
In the comics, Reverse-Flash is responsible for killing Iris West, but it’s unlikely that the show will follow that storyline. The show has referenced the Crisis, the legendary series in which Barry Allen was killed battling the Anti-Monitor. Also in the comics, The Flash killed Reverse-Flash when he attempted to kill Barry’s second finacée Fiona. And in New 52 continuity, the Reverse-Flash is Daniel West, the brother of Iris… but that’s also unlikely for the show.
While Reverse-Flash has been teased in prior episodes, he has always been obscured due to his super speed vibrations. Now, check out Tom Cavanagh in full Reverse-Flash regalia.
Looks pretty good! I did notice the lightning bolts on his belt look like W’s, as in Wells.
What do you think? How does Cavanagh look as The Reverse-Flash?
‘The Flash’ returns this Tuesday, March 17th.
