Earlier this month, there was some talk from Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer that indicated that ‘The Hunger Games’ could live on after the fourth and final film of the series is released later this year. However, before we go into prequels, sequels, or even the grand finale of Katniss Everdeen’s story, ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ will hit Blu-ray and DVD next month. In anticipation for that release, a few deleted scenes have made their way online for all to see.
Though you can download a digital copy of ‘Mockingjay’ right now, many movie fanatics tend to hold out for the home release to get their hands on some special features including behind the scenes videos, deleted scenes, and things like that. As a tease for what you can expect along those lines on the Blu-ray and DVD for the latest ‘Hunger Games’ film, the studio has released three scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. In the first one, Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss and Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch Abernathy clear the air about the events of ‘Catching Fire’. Then, Effie Trinket gets in on the action by saving Katniss from some underqualified makeup artists. Finally, Peeta Mellark comes face to face with President Snow, who isn’t as welcoming as he might try to sound. You can check out all three clips below:
For the most part, I could see why these scenes got cut from the theatrical cut, however, it would have greatly benefitted ‘Mockingjay – Part 1’ to keep that last scene in. We didn’t get to see much of Peeta other than the video broadcasts, and though we all understood what Snow was up to, this conversation would have provided some great context as to what sort of duress he would experience throughout this film while Katniss joined the revolution.
What do you think about these deleted scenes from ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’? Will you be picking up a physical copy of the film to get all the extra goodies? And are you more excited for the epic conclusion coming our way this fall? Let us know in the comments below.
