Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has just been cast in the adaptation of the comic series ‘The Monster Hunters’ Survival Guide’. The comic book series, published by Zenescope Comics is a parody style guide in the vein of Max Brook’s ‘The Zombie Survial Guide’ but the ‘Monster Hunters’ Survival Guide’ goes a step further to discuss how to dispatch all sorts of creepy crawlies that go bump in the night. According to the book itself, the comic is “a comprehensive guide to hunt monsters, the undead and unnatural beasts, and survive the confrontations.”

Johnson currently in production for the sequel ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ in which he plays the heavy machine-gunner Roadblock. He is set to star in the upcoming ‘Switch’ about a father who turns DEA informant to lessen his son’s prison sentence. Johnson is also cast as Goliath in a screen adaptation of the Biblical ‘David and Goliath’ but no David has been cast yet so that movie is still in production limbo.

If you doubt Johnson's comedic chops, go watch 'Be Cool'.

Now I know that I am in the minority here, but I actually enjoyed the video-game based ‘Doom’ film as good monster-blasting fun so I can’t wait to see Johnson back in action and kicking monster booty. With his wrestling past and his muscular physique, Johnson naturally gets cast as an action star. However, Johnson is much better when he’s cast in comedic roles and a tongue in cheek adaptation of ‘The Monster Hunters’ Survival Guide’ sounds like it could be a wonderful combination of both.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one as it develops. In the meantime, here’s the back cover description for the ‘Monster Hunters’ Guide’ to whet your appetite:

“Monsters surround us. They’re everywhere; on TV, in movies …they haunt our nightmares. But are they real? Do Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies really exist? And if so how can we survive against them? At last here is the comprehensive guide every Monster Hunter must have! Whether you’re a weekend Bigfoot hunter or a hardcore Vampire slayer you simply can’t afford not to own this book.”
