USA Network is finally jumping on the genre bandwagon and is set to deliver us a science fiction adventure in ‘Colony.’ The series is being brought to us by Carlton Cuse (‘Lost‘,’Bates Motel‘) and is being penned by Cuse and Ryan Condal (‘Hercules’,’The Sixth Gun’). Currently Juan José Campanella (‘The Secret in Their Eyes,’ ‘House M.D.’) is on board as an executive producer and is set to direct the pilot though there is no word if he’ll be continuing to direct after it. The first season is set to be 10 episodes long.

The series not only has some great names behind the wheel in running the show but have two great actors for the leads so far in Josh Holloway (‘Lost’,’Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’) and Sarah Wayne Callies (‘The Walking Dead‘,’Prison Break’).

The real question though is what is it all about? Well the series will be set in the future where things aren’t going too well for the freedoms that the United States are currently used to. Here’s the official synopsis:

Colony centers on a family torn by opposing forces and making difficult decisions as they balance staying together with surviving the struggle of the human race. Set in the near future, the story takes place in Los Angeles, which exists in a state of occupation by a force of outside intruders. Some people choose to collaborate with the authorities and benefit from the new order, while others rebel and suffer the consequences.

While not spelled out directly in the above description, the first report of the series last year did say that it was an alien drama, so this would leave one to believe that the “outside intruders” are actually aliens. That would make a lot more sense since the show is described as “surviving the struggle of the human race.”

When talking about developing the show for the network Cuse has said that, “I’ve loved my experience at USA. I feel like they’re extremely good at what they do. They’re very clear about what their network is all about, and what they want.”

President of USA Network Chris McCumber chimed in that, “Carlton and Ryan have created an intriguing ride that uniquely provides a humanistic take on a story set in the near future. Josh and Sarah have incredible on-screen chemistry and brilliantly play a couple making tough choices to protect their family in an uncertain world.”

It sounds as the network believes that they’ve developed something really worth watching here.

What are your thoughts on the early news from ‘Colony’? Do you think this will be an alien invasion hit?
