After the slew of teasers for Marvel’s upcoming ‘Secret Wars‘ late last year that teased every major event Marvel has ever done, next Tuesday January 20th at 3pm EST we are finally going to find out what exactly the event is all about during a “Live Kickoff” event. This 8-issue arc promises to “shake the very foundations of the Marvel Universe as you know it” which isn’t too shocking on its own as every event promises to “change everything.” But with all of the build up for ‘Secret Wars,’ this could potentially be geared to do just that.
According to Marvel, the return of ‘Secret Wars’ should have us preparing “for the coming of a new Battleworld and learn the first details of the strange, patchwork realm playing host to countless separate realities!”
The Marvel Kick Off event will stream live from New York City’s own Midtown Comics and star Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and SVP, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort as the hosts to what Marvel’s major 2015 comic event is going to be. We’ll all be able to watch it go down live at Marvel.com/secretwars and finally find out how this Battleworld will be different from the previous one and possibly give us a clue as to how so many Marvel universes and time periods are going to get dragged kicking and screaming into this mess.
Two questions teased by Marvel that will be answered are “What will happen when Time Runs Out?” and “What secrets does Battleworld hold?” The second one is a great question and the first makes me wonder how exactly this is going to spawn out of the current ongoing ‘Avengers’ series. I didn’t initially tie it together that the current run of Earth’s Mightiest Champions was going to lead into this and the current week’s issue has us down to “In 4 Months… Time Runs Out!” with the official ‘Secret Wars’ tie-in announcement there which you can see below.
With the multiverse breaking down on a cosmic scale and the events in ‘Avengers’ already being set partially in the future it should have been a no brainer that a new Battleworld that is from multiple universes and time periods should stem from here. I’m now kind of curious on how Thanos and company may end up being involved in this, if at all. Also, I’m wondering if the events we’re watching unfold are actually happening or if our heroes, or another Universe’s version of them, may already be in Battleworld.
