With the second season of ‘Extant‘ to air this summer, we’ve just found out that CBS has some big casting changes in store. Fans may be a little surprised with how many cast members will be gone either right off the bat or early on in the season! While Halle Berry is set to reprise her role as Molly, the ISEA astronaut that the show revolves around, it gets a little hairy from that point on. Pierce Gagnon, her android son and Grace Gummer, one of the members from the Humanichs Project are the only three confirmed to be coming back for the season.
Beyond that, we start to see the cast mix up officially happen. While Goran Visnjic who plays her husband and Camryn Manheim who plays her friend are returning, it will only be for a couple of episodes. Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill will officially not be back on the series.
That being said, we’re also getting a few new faces on board as we follow Molly attempting to track down her alien son that is an apparent threat to the human race. No word yet on who will be added to the cast but as locations are going to be changing, I suspect there will be both new people getting in her way and at least one new ally to help aid her in her cause.
During its first season run, ‘Extant’ averaged 8.64 million viewers with 1.7 in adults 18-49. While not the highest rated show on CBS, the DVR and online viewings were enough to keep it on the air for at least a second season.
Are you excited to see ‘Extant’ set to return? Do you wish the casting didn’t have such drastic changes or with the direction that the show is going does this make perfect sense? Share your thoughts below!
