We just heard that the script adaptation for ‘Ready Player One‘ has just been completed and now word has it that Warner Brothers has offered the director’s chair to Christopher Nolan. With his success in science fiction blockbusters from the recent ‘Batman’ trilogy, ‘Inception,’ and ‘Interstellar,’ it seems like a no brainer that the studio would want him back on another science fiction themed project.

I’m just not sure if the source material is properly dark enough for what he tends to put on the big screen. That being said, his work on ‘Inception’ could prove to be just the kind of experience in creative world building that would be needed for a film that would need the proper special effects to be pulled off correctly. Still, Nolan’s style tends to lean to the darker side and it’ll be interesting if that changes the source material or if we’ll see a new side to the director that we haven’t seen before.

Of course, just because Warner Brothers has extended an official offer to the director doesn’t guarantee he’ll actually sign it. We know that at least the current script that Zak Penn has written with input from author Ernest Cline still has a lot of the lighthearted humor which could be at odds with the director.

Personally I would have been thrilled to hear an announcement of Edgar Wright to be tapped for the film as his whimsical style from his Cornetto trilogy which included ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ ‘Hot Fuz,’ and ‘The World’s End’ as well as what he did with ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ seems as if he would be the perfect fit for the novel.

Are you excited to hear that ‘Ready Player One’ is moving forward? Do you think Nolan is the right choice to direct the film or would you rather see someone else behind the camera? Share your thoughts below!
