This week, when news emerged about Wally Pfister’s directorial debut ‘Transcendence’, it was overshadowed by the possibility that star Johnny Depp might consider taking a break from acting somewhere down the line after his schedule clears up. But since that won’t happen for maybe five or six years, I’ll spare you the details and skip right to the stuff about the first film from Christopher Nolan’s former cinematographer.

Previously, a behind the scenes featurette was released to show off some set footage, some pre-production layouts, and a message from Depp’s co-star Rebecca Hall. Now, we have the opportunity to learn more about what the film’s plot since the official synopsis was just released. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming film:

“Will Caster, forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the internet. Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?”

Considering that any film that Nolan gets involved in tends to have an air of secrecy surrounding it, this one is no different as the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy helmer is producing. However, aside from what’s shared in the synopsis, we did learn that Depp would play Caster alongside Hall as his wife and Paul Bettany (who might be best known these days as the voice of Iron Man’s own artificial intelligence, Jarvis) as a colleague on his team.

What do you think of Pfister’s action/sci-fi film so far? Are you interested in the things that ‘Transcendence’ has to offer so far? Let us know in the comment section.

‘Transcendence’ starring Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins Jr., Kate Mara, and Paul Bettany will be released on April 18, 2014.
