CBS gave ‘Supergirl‘ a series commitment, making it the fourth major network to pick up a DC Comics-based show, joining The CW (‘Arrow‘, ‘The Flash‘), Fox (‘Gotham‘) and NBC (‘Constantine‘, although this show’s future is uncertain).  (Not surprisingly, the only other major network that doesn’t have a DC show is ABC, which is owned by Disney which also owns DC’s rival Marvel.  ABC has its own comic book series, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’)

‘Supergirl’ will focus on Kara Zor-El, the last daughter of Krypton, sent to Earth to survive her home  planet’s destruction.   She was adopted by the Danvers family and has spent the last few years hiding her powers from the world.

The show is being written and executive produced by ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’s Greg Berlanti and ‘Chuck’ and ‘No Ordinary Family’s Ali Adler, with Sarah Schechter also executive producing.  Berlanti’s involvement has spurred speculation as to whether this show may exist within the same universe as The CW’s two hit shows.  It’s unlikely, but no official word has been given.  It certainly wouldn’t hurt ‘The Flash’ or ‘Arrow’ which are both established hits and could only help the fledgling ‘Supergirl.’  The only obstacle would be politics between the networks.

As for Supergirl’s famous cousin, Superman, there’s been no mention of his involvement, but don’t rule it out due to the movie franchise.  Remember ‘Gotham’ features the Batman universe of characters and The Flash will appear in a movie separate from the TV show.

As for Holt, she is just the first name to emerge in connection with the series so it’s entirely possible that more could emerge as the show develops.

Are you excited to see a Supergirl series?  What do you hope to see it contain?  Any other DC heroes or villains?
