Square Enix has released a new developer diary explaining more about Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming ‘Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.’

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris,’ not to be confused with the upcoming sequel to ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot called ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider,’ is a direct sequel to 2010’s series spin-off ‘Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.’ It is an isometric cooperative multiplayer puzzle solving action-adventure title that stars Lara Croft and others as they adventure through dangerous Egyptian tombs.

Unlike the previous entry in the spin-off series, ‘Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris’ will allow the ability for up to four players to play cooperatively locally or online. Also new is depending on the amount of players at a given time, the game will adjust its challenges accordingly.

Playable characters in the game include the titular archeologist Lara Croft and rival Carter Bell as well as Egyptian Gods, Horus and Isis. Each set of characters have their own unique set of abilities. For example, archaeologist characters have the ability to use a torch to light tombs and access to a grapple, which can let them cross chasms, use as a rope bridge and assist friends over dangerous spaces. Egyptian God characters can use their magical stags to manipulate objects in tombs and also make use of a magical shield as protection to themselves or other players.

Despite being cooperative in nature, the game also looks to be spurring competition by encouraging players to compete with one another over who can collect the most loot. In the trailer, the developers themselves encourage that players try to sabotage each other to get the most loot. However, loot itself can be used to upgrade characters with weapons, rings and amulets that can increase their power in different ways.
