With the outpouring of praise for the 2009 release of ‘Zombieland,’ it was quite a surprise when no sequel was immediately on the horizon but it now looks like Sony has just hired a writer and fast tracked ‘Zombieland 2‘!

Yes my friends, more rules on how to survive the zombie apocalypse are finally on the way. Five years is a long time to wait for a sequel, but with ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘ proving that even a 30 year wait can be one that we’re looking forward to, I won’t hold it against them. On board to write the film is Dave Callaham (‘The Expendables’, ‘Doom’) who has some experience with action and humor being mixed together.

We all originally had high hopes that Amazon would be successful with making a Zombieland’ TV series but when that was scrapped, it seemed that we were destined to be done with the series. I’m sure we can all appreciate rule #32 right now to Enjoy The Little Things.

At this time it looks like Ruben Fleischer is still on board to return in the director’s chair but we’re not sure who else is. Most of the cast are involved with other franchises and Woody Harrelson was once quite vocal about not being a fan of franchise films though he doesn’t seem to have any issue being a part of ‘The Hunger Games’ universe so maybe time and money have changed his mind.

Previously Fleischer had mentioned that the concept he had for the film would pit our foursome with more than just the undead:

“Needless to say it was a continuation of the original story with the same characters. I guess the only thing I could really say is that the threat to our heroes wasn’t only zombies, like they encounter other people that they’re all jockeying for positions.”

I was a huge fan of the first movie so personally would love to see a return to it. However, I am more interested in being invested in the characters that we’ve been introduced to and seeing how they’ve grown through the apocalypse, not a new set of characters who are also fumbling their way through.

Would you be up for seeing more of the rules on how to survive Zombieland? Do you want the cast to return or would you prefer a new set of characters for this particular end of the world scenario?
