Clearly George R.R. Martin‘s fantasy world of ‘Game of Thrones‘ has an end game in mind that none of us are aware of, but the famed author has recently admitted some people have already figured out how he plans to finish the series! While the showrunners of the HBO’s take on the books have been kept in the loop on his plans, they’ve been a complete secret to everyone else. Until now!

Apparently how he has envisioned the ending of his epic series is already out there online, the question is where?

Actually let me rewind a moment to how this admission came to be. Martin was recently at the Edinburgh International Literary Festival and gave an interview. It was brought up that there were many fan theories online about how he would end the the last two novels, ‘The Winds of Winter’ and ‘A Dream of Spring’. While he announced that he hasn’t fully decided how the lives of minor characters would play out, the fates of the major players were already set in stone.

So when it comes to all of the fan speculation he chimed in with:

“I’ve wrestled with [the issue of fan speculation online], because I do want to surprise my readers. I hate predictable fiction as a reader, I don’t want to write predictable fiction. I want to surprise and delight my reader and take them in directions they didn’t see coming … At least one or two readers had put together the extremely subtle and obscure clues that I’d planted in the books and came to the right solution. So what do I do then? Do I change it? I wrestled with that issue, and I came to the conclusion that changing it would be a disaster, because the clues were there. You can’t do that, so I’m just going to go ahead. Some of my readers who don’t read the boards, which thankfully there are hundreds of thousands of them, will still be surprised and other readers will say: ‘see, I said that four years ago, I’m smarter than you guys.

So there you have it folks, the ending is out there! There are clues to follow and thousands of theories floating around. Good luck on figuring out which one is real until we have the books in our hands a few years down the line.

Let’s be honest though. If “a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare,” then surely a bunch of our fellow geeks following actual clues in the books could figure out the ending. It isn’t that much of a stretch to see happen. I’m just curious as to what those clues are!

So my fellow fans of the Iron Throne, what do you think the hidden clues are and how is Martin going to end the series? Who will live? Who will die? Who will end the series perched upon the Iron Throne? Share your thoughts below! If you are right you can come back in another 4-5 years and show off your powers of deduction!
