Universal has been slow moving on restarting their classic monster franchises but have just announced that Alex Kurtzman (‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘) and Chris Morgan (‘Fast & Furious 6′, ’47 Ronin’) are set to relaunch the movies. It all began back when Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were set to reboot just ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Van Helsing‘. Fast forward almost a year and it looks as if the writing duo were set to take on a full mash up of the classic Universal monsters. That all changes a couple months back when the duo broke up (for lack of a better word) as they are going their separate ways in the movie industry. So what happens after a ten year partnership dissolves? Well they have to split up their possessions too and it looks as if Kurtzman is going to be keeping the monsters.

The plan is to not only revitalize and bring back classic horror monsters such as Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature Of The Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, and The Mummy, but to also link them all together in one shared universe. Marvel has proven how profitable that idea works and now everyone is looking to get in on the action.

When it comes to bringing back the classics if they can pull it off I’m perfectly OK with that! While Kurtzman was initially attached to the project, Universal has brought in Chris Morgan to help him on it.

So how will these play out? It will all begin on April 22nd, 2016 when ‘The Mummy’ is rebooted. Their input won’t just stop at the movies though! The pair will be intimately involved with the production, marketing, promotions, and consumer products in order to make sure everything is tied together properly.

It’s unclear at this time if ‘Dracula Untold’ will fit into this new expanded monster filled universe.
