‘Game of Thrones’ star Rose Leslie has just signed on to join ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘ starring Vin Diesel (‘Riddick‘, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’). Leslie is mainly known as her portrayal of John Snow’s Wilding lover Ygritte and I’m glad to see that she’ll be picking up a new role in a genre film. I wonder if Diesel’s character will know nothing? The film was pitched by Cory Goodman and the script was finished up by both D.W. Harper and Melisa Wallack. Breck Eisner (‘The Crazies,’ ‘Taken’) has been signed on to direct.

In the movie we are following the adventures of a semi-immortal witch hunter (Diesel) that is wandering through modern New York City trying to stop a witch queen from gaining an artifact that will release a plague that will kill everyone, bringing the end of times for humanity. Leslie plays another witch who partners with Diesel’s character to stop the queen. Not only do they end up helping one another but there is a potential love interest that pops up as well. Sounds like they are taking a page from ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters‘.

With filming starting this August in Pittsburgh, we should be hearing more on it soon. Even though I’m always iffy on magic being set in modern times, I’m a sucker for Diesel in a film. He brings just the right kind of camp to make me want to see most of his movies. Add in that when Leslie isn’t saying “You know nothing John Snow” for the ten millionth time she does have some good acting chops so I’m curious to see her in a larger role.
