UPDATE: While rumors have run rampant about ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Sherlock’ showrunner Steven Moffat’s involvement in future ‘Star Wars’ films, these talks seem to be news to him. Because he deleted his Twitter account in 2012, his wife Sue Vertue took to the social media site on Moffat’s behalf to debunk the rumors:

Although there’s always the possibility that this could become a reality somewhere down the line, it doesn’t look like the man behind the Doctor will be traveling to a galaxy far, far away just yet.

Love him or hate him, fans around the world know Steven Moffat from his work on the long running British sci-fi staple ‘Doctor Who’, but some new rumors connect him to another popular space epic that happens to be shooting in the UK. If these reports are true, then we may get to see the man behind the Doctor ditching the TARDIS for the Millennium Falcon and a journey to a galaxy far, far away.

According to Jedi News, the BBC series showrunner is in line to lead an upcoming ‘Star Wars’ film. But if this rumor ends up being true, which project could Moffat be hitching his rig to? While J.J. Abrams is currently hard at work on ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, Lucasfilm and Disney are bringing on some incredible young talent to bring George Lucas’ creation to a whole new generation. Previously, we learned that Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards would be handling two of the three stand-alone films set for release in between the movies of the main saga. Then, reports emerged about ‘Looper’ director Rian Johnson writing and directing ‘Episode VIII’ and ‘Episode IX’, however, we have yet to hear any official announcements regarding that news. If things fell through with Johnson, then that means that Moffat could be connected to the third stand-alone film or one of the next two episodes in the main storyline.

While it may seem like this report is coming out of nowhere, it’s not entirely farfetched that Moffat’s name would pop up in ‘Star Wars’ talks. Sources say that thanks to his involvement in ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’, which saw him collaborate with legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, he’s on the radar of some of the most influential people connected to ‘Star Wars.’

Do you think Steven Moffat would be a good fit to write, direct, produce, or do anything related to ‘Star Wars’? If he is attached to a project in a galaxy far, far away, would you rather see him tackle a spinoff or an episode? Or would you rather he stay right where he is with the Doctor and away from ‘Star Wars’ all together? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
