This fall, Mike Mignola is releasing ‘Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.’ through Dark Horse! Yes there is a new comic coming out starring everyone’s favorite Hellboy taking place in the land of the living and not just in Hell! This isn’t a story of Hellboy returning to Earth. We’re actually going back in time a bit and finding more about the years where Hellboy first set out helping the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense.

This new series will start with a trilogy of miniseries that take place in the years 1946, 1947, and 1948. After his first three years, though, we’ll end up watching as the series jumps forward 4 years to 1952. There is no word on why we see a jump forward and if it has any special meaning for the plot. While the ‘Hellboy’ world is on the fantasy side of things, there are a lot of real life events that happen in these years which could be fun to see mentioned. I can just picture the 1946 trilogy slipping in that the CIA was formed and the B.P.R.D. making fun of them somehow.

While Mignola will craft the overall plots and Hellboy’s dialogue, the rest of the scripts will be taken care of by long time writer John Arcudi with art being spearheaded by Alex Maleev, who is more of a familiar face to Marvel fans.

With Hellboy Day being so successful in celebrating 20 years of our favorite demon, it’ll be fun watching tales of him while he was still young, wide eyed, and full of adventure and not just the brooding man he has become.

Are you looking for a new look into the world of Hellboy? Happy to hear it’ll be before the world is changed into the monster infested wasteland it is in the current comics? Share your thoughts below!
