Things are picking up in the world of casting for ‘Doctor Strange‘ as Édgar Ramírez (‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, ‘Wrath of the Titans‘) has admitted that he has been talking with director Scott Derrickson about a role in the movie. Which role? Well, no one is being that candid but for an actor with his talent, I would suspect it is either for the good Doctor himself or one of his main villains. With Jared Leto being one of the other names up for the title role and having just dropped out of ‘Brilliance, it’s hard to say who is being looked at for which character right now. Of course, the names of Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch have also been dropped in association with the role.
So when asked about Derrickson approaching him about a role in the film during a recent press junket for ‘Deliver Us From Evil,’ his response was that “We’re Talking. We’ve been talking.”
As that is vague, we have to remember that talking with the director about “a” role and negotiating with Marvel for a specific part are two entirely different beasts. Also, with it just being a role, he could just be looking to end up as one of the villains such as Dormammu or Baron Mordo. Hell, it could be any number of supporting cast members as well.
We’ll know more soon because if this movie is going to be taking the July 8th, 2016 date that Marvel has earmarked for an unnannounced title the pre-production push will be starting at any time. Near the very top of that list is clearly going to be casting.
